Challenger Approaching: Mario

Now we all knew this one was coming.  Can you really have an all encompassing Nintendo game without their main man.  Mario is back to lead another all-star cast for these two games.  In the opening trailer, Mario was the one that showed the difference in artistic direction between the 3DS and Wii U games.

Here is Mario on the 3DS.  This shows how characters on the 3DS are more cell-shaded then their Wii-U counterparts.  Due to the size of the screen, Sakurai has stated how the characters will have a black line surrounding them to help them pop more so you can more easily see your characters when 4-players.

Here is Mario on the Wii U. You can see the clarity in this image of him showing that Nintendo has finally gotten behind HD.  He looks gorgeous in motion in the game between Mario and Megaman as well as the E3 trailer.  Many people may notice though that compared to his Brawl version, the overalls do not seem as detailed as they seemed to look like denim. However, the resolution of these overalls do not hold up to these ones due to the graphical power the Wii U has over the Wii.

Moves seen:
Up B: Super Jump Punch - Coin creating punching action is back

Down B: F.L.U.D.D. - Why, Why, Why is this back????

Side B: Cape - Going to mess with people trying to come back on to the field

Standard B: Fireball - Spam Spam Spam

Symbol: Mushroom

Final Smash: ????

Entrance Animation: ????

Overall, Mario seems to be the series icon that we have known him to be. He seems to be a clearer version of his Brawl counterpart with the same moveset players learned from the previous entry in the series.  We have not seen if the Mario Tornado is back as the down A air attack.  We have seen that the final smash is back however we have not seen if the Mario Finale is back as his.  Also we do not know if the entrance animations are back as they were not shown at the beginning of the Mario vs Megaman match.  We will wait and see if Mario gets his pipe entrance back.

Welcome Back Mario
